Payment Plans Checkout Feature

When making a donation through the public campaign, or via a pledge invoice that was sent to you, you can split your donation into 2-12 monthly payments using a payment plan.

  • During checkout, choose "Payment Plan" instead of "Pay in Full"
  • Select 2-12 monthly payments
  • Pick billing day (5th or 20th of the month)
  • Review complete payment schedule with specific dates
  • Prorated First Payment: May be adjusted based on days until billing day
  • Fixed Schedule: Cannot be edited once created
  • Automatically completes after final payment

Understanding Subscription Types

Subscriptions allow you to set up recurring monthly donations that are automatically charged to your payment method. You have full control over the amount, billing day, and duration.

🔄 Regular Recurring Subscription

A standard monthly donation that continues indefinitely or until a specified end date. Perfect for ongoing support.

  • Choose any amount (minimum $1.00)
  • Select your preferred billing day (1st-28th of the month)
  • Set an optional end date or keep it ongoing
  • Can be edited or cancelled at any time

📅 Payment Plan Limited Duration

Split a larger donation into 2-12 equal monthly payments. Ideal for pledges or specific commitments.

  • Choose total amount and number of payments (2-12 months)
  • Select billing day (5th or 20th of the month)
  • First payment may be prorated based on days until billing day
  • Automatically ends after all payments are complete
  • Cannot be edited once created (only retry failed payments)

Payment Application Options

When creating a subscription, you can choose how payments should be applied to your account. This gives you flexibility in managing your donations and outstanding balances.

💰 Apply to Outstanding Balance

Subscription payments will first be applied to any outstanding balance on your account, with any remaining amount recorded as a new donation.

  • Helps you pay down existing pledges automatically
  • Reduces your balance each month
  • Excess amount becomes a new donation
  • Great for members with ongoing commitments

🎁 New Donation Only

The entire subscription payment is recorded as a new donation, separate from any existing balance.

  • All payments are fresh donations
  • Does not affect existing balance
  • Ideal for additional support beyond commitments
  • Perfect for general fund contributions

Creating New Subscriptions

From the subscription management page, you can create new recurring donations with flexible options.

Creating Payment Plans from Campaigns

When making a donation through a campaign, you can choose to split your donation into monthly payments using a payment plan.

How Payment Plans Work

Payment Plan Features

📊 Prorated First Payment

If you create a payment plan between billing days, your first payment will be prorated to cover the partial month. This ensures fair billing and aligns future payments with your chosen billing day.

  • Example: If you select the 20th and sign up on the 10th, you'll pay for 10 days today
  • All subsequent payments will be the full monthly amount
  • Total amount remains the same - just distributed fairly

🔒 Fixed Payment Plans

Payment plans cannot be edited once created. This ensures the commitment is honored as agreed.

  • Amount and schedule are locked in
  • Can retry failed payments
  • Automatically completes after final payment
  • Progress tracked with payment counter

Tips & Best Practices

Consent Required: Before creating your first subscription, you'll need to review and accept our terms for storing payment information. This is a one-time requirement for security and transparency.
Billing Day Selection: Choose a billing day that aligns with your budget. For regular subscriptions, you can pick any day from the 1st to 28th. Payment plans offer the 5th or 20th for consistency.
Payment Plan vs Regular Subscription: Use payment plans for specific commitments with a defined end date. Use regular subscriptions for ongoing support that you want to continue indefinitely.
Failed Payments: If a payment fails (expired card, insufficient funds, etc.), you'll see a "Retry Payment" button. This creates a secure checkout session to update your payment method and retry the charge.
Cancellation Options: When cancelling a regular subscription, you can choose to cancel immediately or at the end of the current billing period. Payment plans cannot be cancelled but will automatically end after the final payment.
Email Notifications: You'll receive email confirmations when subscriptions are created, when payments are processed, and when payment plans are completed. Keep these for your records.
Security: Access links expire after 24 hours. If your link expires, simply request a new one from the donation page. Never share your access link with others.
Processing Fees: You can choose to cover processing fees when creating subscriptions or payment plans. This ensures 100% of your intended donation amount goes to the organization.

Understanding Subscription Status

Your subscriptions can have different statuses depending on their current state. Here's what each status means:
